Sonye: Kwacha Single

Written by Timve Magazine on . Posted in Entertainment

After a successful run in 2011 with songs such as ‘Tabwela’ and ‘Ukadutsa’, Timve Media and Baseline Studios are proud to present the first single from Sonye titled ‘Kwacha’.

Kwacha is an Afro-spiced celebratory song that talks of having fun and not worrying about the troubles of this world, and is a perfect tonic for this festive season when people are about to celebrate Christmas.

The song is taken off the upcoming compilation ‘Baseline Mixdown 2011’ slated for release in January 2012.

The compilation, which is in its second installment, is a celebration of Afro-urban music and features an array of over 17 urban musicians that include Maskal, Sonye, Tay Grin, Barry One, Third Eye, Rina and Dare Devils.

The album on the one hand serves to introduce talented new acts in the likes of dancehall renegades Nepman, Black Thunder and silky-voiced Callista.

The compilation has been assembled in celebration of unity (umodzi) and is usually given out for free and is also available online for free download.

Sonye is writer, singer, producer and a Malawi Music Award winner, who released his debut album ‘Break Point’ in July, 2011 which had hit singles such as ‘Tabwela’ and ‘Ukadutsa’ which became regulars on radio as well as the just ended Big Brother Africa. The 21-year-old has gone on national tours with Sprite and has performed in front of the country’s First Lady Calista Mutharika.

In recognition of his talent an appeal, Sonye has been chosen as an ambassador for the British Council-sponsored Climate Change initiative GO GREEN.
